An Awesome <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=EBvJaUSbAUA&amp;t=50s\">video<\/a> how-to piece.<\/li><li>Search Console &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=aozclsavSu4\">Sweet video guide<\/a>;<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/adwords.google.com\/ko\/KeywordPlanner\">Google KeyWord Planner<\/a> &#8211; You will need to set up your first add to access the functionality (you can stop that straight after).<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>And you are good to go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more actionable data you will need to wait a bit for Search Console &amp; Analytics to collect information that can be categorized as reliable.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"tve-tl-cnt-wrap\">\n<h2>Step #1 \u2013 Content Optimization With Google Search Console<\/h2>\n<p><b>Before we start: <\/b>Just so we are on the same page, I need to make sure you have Google Search Console set up &amp; ready. <a class=\"cl\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=aozclsavSu4\">This <\/a>video guide will get you there.<\/p>\n<figure><figure><a href=\"https:\/\/rankactive.com\/?aff=39573\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"458\" height=\"278\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-48674\" alt=\"content fun meme\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.matthewwoodward.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/content-fun-meme.jpeg\"><\/a><\/figure><\/figure><p><\/p>\n<p>After that\u2019s done \u2013 you will need to wait a while before the data is imported.<\/p>\n<p>For those already familiar with the Search Console \u2013 congrats, that was the most complicated part of this process.<\/p>\n<p><b>Here\u2019s the part where you will learn how to find the keywords which will bring the most traffic, for each of your posts.<\/b><\/p>\n<h3>Step 1<\/h3>\n<p>Head over to <em>Search Traffic (1) &gt; 1<\/h3>\n<p>Head over to <a class=\"cl\" href=\"https:\/\/adwords.google.com\/KeywordPlanner\">Keyword Planner<\/a> and click on Get Search Volume Data and Trends (1).<\/p>\n<figure><figure><a to the first sheet where you will see the chart with similar looking data-<br><br>In this case, you can see the following:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Which keywords have the highest search volume<\/li>\n<li>And which queries bring blog.Linkody the most traffic<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>At the beginning of a blog post\u2019s life cycle, keywords that bring the most traffic and have the highest search volume rarely match.<\/p>\n<p>And when we look at our blog the query that brings the most clicks is not always the keyword we originally tried to optimise for.<\/p>\n<p><b>This is the optimisation opportunity you should be looking for.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>You should generally target the query you find with the highest clicks as your focus keyword.<\/p>\n<p>But also keep in mind that it\u2019s worth investigating whether there is a potential to rank for keywords with a bigger search volume.<\/p>\n<p><b>Note:<\/b> 99% of the time high search volume means high difficulty to rank.<\/p>\n<p>The probability to rank, for the keywords with the highest search volumes increases with time as your blog post matures by accumulating backlinks.<\/p>\n<p>You can also give it a further boost by making significant updates to the content.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, be realistic about your chances to get organic traffic from high-end queries.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 4<\/h3>\n<p>In our example above most of the clicks were generated by the keyword <em>\u201cniche website examples\u201d<\/em> so we will select this as our focus keyword.<\/p>\n<p><b>After checking the blog post, we realised that this specific term appears in the article only once.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>That means there is great opportunity to optimise for this keyword with some simple on page SEO tweaks.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also important to find 3-4 <a class=\"cl\" href=\"https:\/\/seopressor.com\/learn-seopressor\/lsi-keywords-and-keyword-density\/\">LSI keywords<\/a> (semantic keywords) as well.<\/p>\n<p>Then you want to sprinkle these keywords throughout your article along with your target keyword.<\/p>\n<p>To find LSI keywords run a Google search for the selected focus keyword, scroll to the bottom of the page (1) and you will see the we know the focus keyword and LSI keywords for the specific post, it\u2019s time to optimise the post.<\/p>\n<figure><figure><a href=\"https:\/\/rankactive.com\/?aff=39573\"><img loading=\"lazy\" find the post you want to optimise.<\/p>\n<p>In this example, we will be using WordPress.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 2<\/h3>\n<p>We prepared a checklist for you to know how SEO on-page optimisation should happen. It\u2019s 9 steps \u2013 take one step at a time and do the following for each of your posts:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The headline should start with (&amp; include) the focus keyword (make sure the headline easier by installing the <a class=\"cl\" href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/plugins\/wordpress-seo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yoast SEO plugin<\/a> and setting a focus keyword when you are editing your post-<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>This is a long process but it\u2019s one of the most important elements, without which content optimization won\u2019t really work.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 3<\/h3>\n<p>It is important that you track your progress so please make a copy of <a class=\"cl\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1kLMsKrb_wIxoHrtFH4rsN0r5lsYJtfDgILm_1XJT48w\/edit#gid=0\">this excel sheet<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Just click on <em>File &gt; Make A Copy<\/em> to grab a copy for yourself.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s fairly basic and self explanatory but make sure you fill it out each time you optimise a post for a new keyword so you can track your progress.<\/p>\n<h2>Step #4 \u2013 Tracking Results With Google Analytics<\/h2>\n<p>Knowing you have a problem is the first step towards fixing it.<\/p>\n<p>You cannot know if you\u2019re improving without data \u2013 so you\u2019ve gotta measure it.<\/p>\n<p>For A\/B testing we use Google Analytics. It\u2019s nothing fancy, but it\u2019s free and gets the job done (<a class=\"cl\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=EBvJaUSbAUA\">here<\/a>\u2018s a great video guide on how to set it up).<\/p>\n<h3>Step 1<\/h3>\n<p>Head over to Google Analytics and select your domain.<\/p>\n<figure><figure><a href=\"https:\/\/rankactive.com\/?aff=39573\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"434\" height=\"191\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-48651\" alt=\"google analytics\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.matthewwoodward.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Google-Analytics.png\"><\/a><\/figure><\/figure><p><\/p>\n<h3>Step 2<\/h3>\n<p>It will take some time before you find the right content recipe that works so content optimization should be carried out every ~1-2 months.<\/p>\n<p>With that in mind the data should be monitored regularly at the end of each month.<\/p>\n<figure><figure><a href=\"https:\/\/rankactive.com\/?aff=39573\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"616\" height=\"186\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-48650\" alt=\"ab testing google analytics\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.matthewwoodward.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AB-testing-Google-Analytics.png\"><\/a><\/figure><\/figure><p><\/p>\n<h3>Step 3<\/h3>\n<p>To monitor only the organic traffic head over to <em>Acquisition (1) &gt; All Traffic (2) &gt;Channels (3) &gt; Organic Search (4)<\/em>.<\/p>\n<figure><figure><a href=\"https:\/\/rankactive.com\/?aff=39573\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"467\" height=\"136\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-48649\" alt=\"AB test organic traffic\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.matthewwoodward.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AB-test-organic-traffic.png\"><\/a><\/figure><\/figure><p><\/p>\n<p>Then click on the <em>Landing Pages (1)<\/em><\/p>\n<figure><figure><a href=\"https:\/\/rankactive.com\/?aff=39573\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"346\" height=\"57\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-48648\" alt=\"AB test Landing Pages\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.matthewwoodward.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AB-test-Landing-Pages.png\"><\/a><\/figure><\/figure><p><\/p>\n<p>And you will be able to see all your website\u2019s content. Find the post you optimised and click on it.<\/p>\n<p>Google Analytics compares the traffic &amp; different metrics for each month so you know the effect of your actions and what to improve the next month.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the day, content optimization is a game of A\/B testing \u2013 test, see what works and optimise.<\/p>\n<p><b>Discovering what works is also the hardest part and requires the most work.<\/b><\/p>\n<h2>Wrapping It Up<\/h2>\n<p>By following this framework, you can make sure that your content performs better as time goes by.<\/p>\n<p>For us, it was an amazing discovery.
